Pastor’s Thoughts
“Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits.” — Psalm 103:2
I wonder why David had to tell his own soul not to forget.
Maybe because we do.
We are pretty good at remembering the prayers God hasn’t answered yet. We remember the thing we are still waiting on, the door that still hasn’t opened, the situation that still hasn’t changed. But how quickly do we forget the prayers He has already answered?
Did you complain when you had to put gas in your car this week? Was there ever a time when you prayed for God to provide you a car?
Did you lose your patience with your kids this week? Are those some of the same children you once prayed for? Maybe you remember praying just to see those two lines on a pregnancy test. Maybe you prayed through a pregnancy, an adoption, or a difficult season when you weren’t sure what the future would hold.
Did you argue with your spouse? Is that the same person you once asked God to bring into your life? The person you stood beside and thanked God for?
Did you complain about going to work Monday morning? Was there ever a season when you were praying for a job, praying for more hours, praying for a way to provide for your family?
Did you complain about something at church? Was there ever a time when you were praying for a church family, praying for Christian friends, praying for somewhere your family could grow and serve?
How many things in our lives today were once on our prayer lists?
That thought has been messing with me a little bit. Because somewhere between the asking and the receiving, the miracle became normal.
The thing we once cried over becomes the thing we complain about. The thing we once begged God for becomes so ordinary that we barely notice it anymore.
And maybe that is exactly why David said, “forget not all His benefits.”
He knew how easy it is to forget.
This doesn’t mean we stop asking. There are things I am praying hard about right now, and I am sure you have some too. Jesus taught us to ask. God invites us to bring our needs to Him.
But maybe before we spend all of our time talking to God about what we are still waiting for, we should spend a little time remembering what He has already done.
Look around your life this week.
The car in the driveway. The kids making noise in the other room. The spouse sitting beside you. The job you have to wake up for. The church family that isn’t perfect. The house that needs something fixed. The life that certainly hasn’t turned out exactly the way you planned.
Somewhere in the middle of all of that ordinary life, there just might be an answer to a prayer you once prayed with tears in your eyes.
So keep praying. Keep asking. Keep believing God for things you cannot do on your own.
But don’t forget what you prayed for.
You may already be living in the middle of an answered prayer.

Parking Ministry (Ages 16+): Team Lead and attendants needed for pre- and post-concert parking. Watch the concert for free after everyone is inside.
Load-In & Load-Out Crew (Ages 18+): We need men to help unload and reload the artist’s equipment. You will be able to watch the concert for free.
