Pastor’s Thoughts
Transparency in the Ministry
Lately, it feels like every time I turn around, there is another heartbreaking story about a pastor who has fallen. Allegations. Moral failure. Secret sin brought into the light. Leadership that appeared strong on the outside, but was crumbling underneath.
These stories grieve me deeply. Not just because of the individuals involved, but because of the damage done to the name of Christ, the hurt caused to families, and the confusion it brings to the church.
It also serves as a sobering reminder of something Scripture has always made clear. Pastors are not above accountability. Pastors are not immune to temptation. Pastors are not perfect men. We are simply men who have been called to shepherd God’s people.
The apostle Peter wrote,
“Nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” (1 Peter 5:3, NKJV)
That verse has been on my heart lately.
A pastor is not called to rule over the church as a king. He is called to live among the church as an example. Not as someone untouchable. Not as someone beyond correction. But as someone who walks humbly before God and before the people he serves.
Recently, I had a conversation with someone who loves me and loves our church. He shared some concerns with me. Some of it was hard to hear. But I am thankful for it. Because I do not want to be a pastor who is protected from correction. I want to be a pastor who is protected by correction.
Proverbs 27:6 says,
“Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” (NKJV)
Faithful friends do not flatter you. They help you grow. They help you see blind spots. They help keep you grounded.
At the same time, Scripture also gives us a clear picture of how the church is meant to function. Hebrews 13:17 says,
“Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account.” (NKJV)
That phrase is weighty. Pastors must give account. Not to public opinion. Not to popularity. But to God.
One day, I will stand before the Lord and answer for how I led this church. How I treated people. How I handled His Word. How I cared for the souls entrusted to me.
That reality keeps me sober. It keeps me prayerful. And it keeps me dependent on His grace.
My commitment to you is simple.
I want to lead with transparency.
I want to lead with humility.
I want to lead with integrity.
Not perfectly. But faithfully.
Salt and Light Church does not belong to me. It belongs to Jesus. He is the Chief Shepherd. I am simply one of His undershepherds.
Please pray for me. Pray that I remain faithful. Pray that I remain humble. Pray that I remain obedient to the Lord.
And know this. I am praying for you too.
We are walking this road together.
— Pastor Justin Walker

Vision Update
This week has brought exciting progress for Salt and Light Thrift. We have been working on hiring our store manager and handling important backend steps such as licensing and business setup. At the same time, painting has begun, flooring is underway, and we now have mock-up designs for racks and displays as the space continues to take shape.
We are entering a stage where volunteers can make a huge difference. We need help removing knee walls, framing dressing rooms, and building racks and shelving. If you have experience cutting and threading pipe, your help would be especially valuable. If you would like to volunteer for construction, you can respond directly to this newsletter or contact Kelly Walker (502) 625-6252
We are still a few weeks away from accepting donations, but we encourage you to continue holding on to your items as we work hard to be ready as soon as possible. We will communicate clearly when donation intake begins.
Thank you for your prayers and support as we build something that will not only serve our community, but also advance the mission of Salt and Light.
I've attached some concept pictures to help you catch the vision.

7:00 PM Bible Study
Special Men’s and Women’s Bible Study Tonight – 7:00 PM
Tonight will be a special evening as we gather together for worship and then separate for focused men’s and women’s Bible study. We will begin with worship as one church family, and then the women will meet upstairs in the fellowship hall while the men remain in the sanctuary. The men’s study will also be live streamed.
Chip Gilmore will be leading the men in a study focused on the difference between simply being part of the crowd and becoming a committed disciple. Throughout Jesus’ ministry, crowds gathered, but His purpose was always deeper. Tonight’s study will present a clear and practical strategy for moving beyond casual Christianity into a faithful, personal walk with God.
Jennifer Morrison will be leading the women in a study of Psalm 23, “The Lord is My Shepherd,” connecting it to our current study through the life of David. She will explore how the Lord cares for His sheep and how living dependent on Him brings freedom from hunger, fear, friction, and the many burdens we carry.
This will be a meaningful and intentional night of growth, encouragement, and deeper discipleship. We hope you will join us.

Building Fund - The building purchase and maintenance needs continue in 2026. Thank you for prayerfully considering giving an offering toward the property purchase. Please memo your offerings “Building Fund”.
In 2021, when Salt & Light outgrew our former location, God provided the beautiful 71 acre property with a former horse auction facility and barn where we now gather as a church family.
We entered a lease to own agreement with a payment due December 31 of each year until the purchase is complete.
